Visited the "Bonnard" exhibition in Wuppertal. It gives a very nice insight into his life and development as an artist and of different aspects of his work. Like his use of colour and unusual perspectives and his fondness for intimate domestic interior scenes and uniting interior and exterior through open windows and doors. Many items on loan from around the world, quite a few coming from private collections.

And did you see a lot of cats?
ReplyDeleteNot as much as I thought I'd see, but still enough to get a good idea of that particular aspect of Bonnard's work. There were several works with small dogs playing a part, perhaps they scared the cats of ;-) Anyway, as you'll be able to see in my next post, his cats still made an impression on me.
