Le Chat Noir - Kranke Katze (Impression)

Quick scrap paper sketch roughly based on a photo of a modern dance performance I recently visited (Le Chat Noir - Kranke Katze by Scapino Ballet). Ballpoint on piece of torn envelope. Snelle schets gebaseerd op een recent bezochte dansvoorstelling op een stukje verscheurde envelop.

Mailbox and Autumn Leaves

Dutch mailboxes are orange nowadays and blend in nicely with autumn colours. Quick and rough sketch of a scene in Heerlen. Ink pen, wax pastel on grained paper (21 x 21 cm). Also shown is a quick contour/continuous line drawing I did as a study on the leaflet of a local museum (Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht). It coincidentally got an autumny feel as well through the colours on the leaflet. Brievenbus en herfstbladeren. De oranje brievenbussen van PostNL passen mooi bij de herfstkleuren. Snelle schets van een Heerlens stadsgezicht met inktpen en waspastels.

Continuous Cow

Quick sketch practising countour/continuous line drawing, not minding too much about anatomical correctness. Snelle contour/continue lijn schets.

Lisbeth

Another quick scrap paper sketch. I printed out one of Lisbeth's photos along with some others to sketch (don't like sketching from computer screen) and somehow hers turned out as just a tiny print on the bottom of the page. Did a quick scrap sketch of it on the same page. It's been lying around for a while now, wanted to do some rework on it, but decided to just leave it as it is. Keys

Another quick scrap paper sketch. I'm planning on doing a small painting of a bunch of keys, inspired by Manet's extraordinary small still lifes, like the ones he made of asparagus. I did this sketch just as a reminder to pick up later, but also find that such everyday objects often turn out very rewarding to sketch.

Some more quick scrap paper sketches. They rather appealed to me, so I decided to keep them and post them. The person portrayed is Margarita, a member of Julia Kay's Portrait Party on Flickr. St Paul's

Sketch with wax pastel. It didn't really turn out in the style I wanted to achieve, so in that sense I'm not particularly satisfied with the result. The quick scrap paper sketch I did of the same subject earlier rather appealed to me, so I decided to keep it and post it as well. Landscape for Lots of Landscapes on Flickr, a group in which members paint and draw landscapes from photos posted for that purpose. Schets met Neocolor II waspastels. Ben niet bepaald tevreden met het resultaat. De snelle kladschets die ik eerder van hetzelfde onderwerp maakte sprak me wel aan en besloot het te houden en ook te posten. Landschap voor Lots of Landscapes op Flickr, een groep waarin de leden landschappen tekenen en schilderen van foto's die voor dat doel gepost zijn.

Ballpoint on telephone bill

With limited time for sketching, most of my sketches are just quick doodles done in between or even during other activities and often just on scraps of paper, envelopes, napkins or whatever is at hand at that moment in time. During a short break from working in the garden I did this quick and messy sketch on a telephone bill I recently received. Normally it would have ended up with most of the other scrap paper sketches in the waste paper bin, but on second thought I found the concept of a "ballpoint on telephone bill"-technique rather amusing, so I kept it and here it is. Met beperkte tijd om te tekenen, zijn de meeste van mijn tekeningen vooral snelle krabbels die ik maak tussen andere activiteiten door of zelfs tijdens die activiteiten en vaak gewoon op stukjes papier, enveloppen, servetten of wat dan ook op dat moment voorhanden is. Zo maakte ik tijdens een korte pauze van het werken in de tuin deze snelle en slordige schets op een onlangs ontvangen telefoonrekening die op tafel lag. Normalerwijs was deze samen met vele andere krabbels bij het oud papier beland, maar nader inzien vond ik het concept van een "balpen op telefoonrekening"-techniek wel grappig, dus besloot ik het te houden.
